25 April 1927 – 24 March 2020), French comic book artist and writer, best known as the co-founder and illustrator of the Astérix series in collaboration with René Goscinny, Astérix is a warrior living in Roman-occupied Gaul in the year 50 BC. With super strength given him by a magic potion, he and his fat friend Obelix, keep their village safe from Roman invasion. The Asterix series sold more than 380m copies, in more than 100 languages. Albert Underzo was one of the best and recognised as such, being awarded the French Knight of the Legion of Honour. the Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion and inducted into the Eisner Award Hall of Fame, U.S. All well deserved.
