28/03/2022 I am still doing these things. Devils and demons are common comic book fare and the biro  does lend  itself to drawing them. So I am having a good time.

Hi Arthur,

There seems a dark beauty about these and the biro is an excellent choice of media!

Might be misinterpreting but they also seem an apt reflection of the times we're living through at the moment.

All the Best,

Andy.

Hullo Andy,

I've tried not to think too hard about why this choice of subject.

There were occasions when Alan Grant had me drawing versions of Hell and it was something I found satisfying to do.

As for any contemporary illusions - these seem a lot more innocent than the real world.

More will be done but whether or no I show them is presently undecided.

Take care,

Best,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

I hope you do decide to show any further drawings, they really are fascinating to see.

They remind me of the darker works of Goya and Fuseli but your interpretation of hell seems so unique and personal.

It was perhaps a bit glib of me to suggest a connection with current world events but I just wondered if they were having an influence; much happier to learn that the source is Alan Grant!

All the best and take care too,

Andy.

Hullo Andy.,

guess the truth is that if I like any new drawings I shan't be able to resist insisting that folk see them.

Don't believe it was glib to suggest a connection. Could be. I am however avoiding any self analysis.

Best,

Arthur

Hi again Arthur,

I thought I could see some connection in these drawings of yours but I guess hell has always been a depiction of our worst nightmares.

Good tip about self-analysis, definitely worth resisting!

All the Best,

Andy.

Would you consider illustrating it  (Dante) ?

These are amazing, the lightly shaded one looks like a Rembrandt etching.

Hullo Alan,

aah shucks. Rembrandt?

That's very kind. Thank you.

Not sure yet how serious I am about i but am thinking about it and  planning to get a copy of The Inferno from the library.

Can't imagine I would do more than bits of it.

Best.

Arthur
