12/07/2022 . More keeping busy from me. Sketch with ballpoint pen, colour image done in Paint .As can  be seen, using a different medium invites reinvention. Looks like once I started I pretty much forgot all about the original sketch.

The third image is in response to Alan.in 'comments'.

Original drawn with pen and ink, this a copy to which I added a watercolour ink wash

These look fantastic. Is there a background to them ? The different mediums reminded of a question I wanted to ask.

I know black ink (later with or without colour washes ?) was the typical medium artists used for strip work because of reproduction requirements, but was it a medium you ever used for its own sake ? And do you ever still use it these days ?

Hullo Alan,

thank you.

Honestly don't know why the monumental sculpture of a lost civilisation thing attracts me. It is an image I have returned to.

I have added a sketch I did long ago with the same theme.

Could be school poetry lessons and Percy Bysshe Shelley

Ozymandias

I met a traveller from an antique land,

Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone

Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,

Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,

And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,

Tell that its sculptor well those passions read

Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,

The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;

And on the pedestal, these words appear:

My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

All the best,

Arthur

Thanks for that (enjoyed both the image and poem) !

Was going to mention that I think I remember you mentioning that you used to use ecoline inks but couldn't get them any  more *.

I was really just wondering if the line and wash was something you only did for work or if you used the technique at any time by preference. Really enjoy the full variety of methods here on the site, though.

Hullo Alan,

the Ecoline inks you suggest are the ones I used, They were far more transparent than the water colours I had initially used for work.

Ink line and colour wash I only ever used for work.

Did use the  inks when I was doing abstract paintings on stretched paper.

Long ago but I did end up buying big plastic bottles of Ecoline which an unreliable memory suggest was because I was having trouble getting the small bottles,

Best.

Arthur

Cheers. Some great stuff you have on the 'sketchbook' section I've only just seen, too - partcularly the 'Converstaion' drawings, love the Rembrandt, too. The Witch & Warlock drawing, and the SSI (?) picture are amazing.

Best regards,

Alan

Hullo Alan.

thank you.

When I have stopped melting I might do some more.

Climate change now more like a fact than a theory.

Best,

Arthur
